Donna Phelps, an accomplished faux and decorative artist, is the owner and principle instructor of Sarasota School of Faux & Architectural Finishing, a licensed Faux Effects Training Center. She has trained extensively in state of the art "new world" products and focuses her energy on new technique development putting her extensive product knowledge to good use. She is an avid researcher that is skilled at seeking out the latest in industry accessory materials such as patterned metallic foils and specialty tools for product application and manipulation, helping to keep her design style cutting edge and her workshop content fresh.
She has traveled to teach numerous workshops at the SALI (IDAL) Annual Conventions (1999-2009), The Faux Event (2005-2006), and has been an invited guest instructor at prestigious painting institutions such as The Finishing School in Floral Park, New York; Prismatic Painting Studio in Cincinnati, Ohio; Faux Works in Highpoint, North Carolina; Anything But Plain Studio in Houston, Texas; Surfaces in Kansas City, Kansas; and Faux Effects Studio in Vero Beach, Florida. With her fine tuned planning, attention to detail, and highly marketable finish designs, Donna consistently receives the highest marks from her student evaluations:
During her history as a Licensed Faux Effects Instructor and Distributor, Donna was a featured artist at the 2007 Meeting of the Masters where her booth received rave reviews and excited compliments. Her work has been published in the book The House that Faux Built and in Faux Effects World Magazine and is soon to be seen in Gary Lords latest book, It's Faux Easy 2. Donna was privileged to be an invited instructor on Gary Lord's painting trip to England and in 2009, was proud to be asked to produce two custom designed panels for the Faux Effects booth at the IDAL Convention Expo in Memphis.
Donna continues to plan exciting, new curriculums that include her trendsetting designs for her classes at Sarasota School of Faux & Architectural Finishing, for convention workshops, and to teach at top Faux Effects schools across the country, and she remains hard at work developing custom finishes for her interior designers and private clients. With her enthusiasm and creativity well in place, Donna will always offer her clients and her students cutting edge finishes and techniques with a smile.
